18th International Conference on Human Retrovirology HTLV and Related Viruses (HTLV 2017 Tokyo)

Message from IRVA (International Retrovirology Association)

Dr. Charles Bangham

The International Retrovirology Association (IRVA) is the society for the advancement of knowledge on HTLV-1 and related viruses: Bovine Leukaemia Virus (BLV) and exogenous and endogenous human retroviruses other than HIV-1 and HIV-2. The purpose of the Association is to bring together scientists, clinicians, policy makers and patients to exchange information and advance both the understanding of the infections and the diseases they cause, and the clinical management of the diseases. The study of these viruses continues to make contributions to science of wide significance in human biology and medicine. Most important, there remains an urgent need to improve the treatment of the devastating diseases adult T cell leukaemia (ATL) and HTLV-1-associated myelophathy/tropical spastic paraparesis (HAM/TSP).

The chief event of the Association is the International Conference, which is held every two years, by rotation in the Americas, Asia and Europe. It is my great pleasure to invite you to take part in the 18th International Conference on Human Retrovirology, to be held in Tokyo, Japan, from 7-10 March 2017.
